Restaurants
These are our favorite restaurants in the area. If you want to comment on these, or tell us about one we missed, please e-mail us. Estero Island is less than 2/10th of a mile across at the northern end. There is one street, Estero Boulevard, running the length of the island. This makes addresses very easy to find on the island. Bowditch State Park is at the northern end of the island. Addresses start here at One Estero Boulevard. They get progressively higher the farther south you go. Times Square is the heart of the island. The addresses at Times Square start at 1000 Estero Blvd. Miramar Street, about a 15 minute walk at a slow pace, is at about 1800 Estero Blvd. The restaurants here are listed in an approximately north to south order. Please let us know if you have any comments about the listings here. Or if you would like to add something, send an e-mail and we'll include it in the next update.

*These are our favorites!!

Pete's Time Out The Beach Pierside Grill & Blowfish Bar - 1000 Estero Blvd (765-7800) - Outdoor dining on the deck in the shadow of the Pier and a great view of the ocean. Good peel & eat shrimp, fried clams, and daily specials. Kids menu available. Some say it's slipping lately with expensive, poorly done entrees. Live music on some nights.

Plaka - 1001 Estero Blvd (463-4707) - Tell us what you think about it.

Pete's Time Out - 1005 Estero Blvd (463-5900) - Great egg sandwiches and grits. Some have said the food tastes like it came out of your freezer. Lunch and dinner menu includes burgers and peel & eat shrimp. View is of the Dairy Queen but a great people watching place.

Wahoo Willies & Billfish Bar - 1021 Estero Blvd (463-4768) - A lot of work has been done on here in the past year. Now they have the usual beach menu and great burgers. There's also a bar for lounging around.

Kilwin's Ice Cream & Fudge - In Times Square - The chocolate covered strawberries, candy apples, and peanut brittle is great. The ice cream is better here than around the corner at 2000 Flavors.

Citroloa's - In Times Square - Nice little pizza place that has spaghetti and a few entrees. The pizza at Dockside (under the Bridge) is better. It's the view and people watching you can't beat here.

2000 Flavors - In Times Square - Not quite 2000 flavors but still good, hard packed ice cream.

*Dockside - 1130 1st Street (463-4631) - The pizza is excellent. Mark says best he's ever eaten. Forget Papa John's and Dominos (also found on the island). Get take out or eat in at this sports pub. Satellite and cable bring you all the games you could possibly care about. NTN Trivia is playing every night there isn't a big game on TV.

Matanza's Inn Restaurant

Matanzas Inn Restaurant - 416 Crescent Street (463-3838) - Sit outside on their deck for a view of the bay and the shrimp boats. A little more pricey but not much. The food is only fair.

Snug Harbor - 645 Old San Carlos Blvd (463-4343) - This restaurant on the bay changed completely in 2003. They now have a new building with three bars, and one expensive restaurant. If you're in the mood for something more upscale, try this. Don't forget to admire the impressive artwork including the 3-D aquarium mural in the entrance way.

*Düsseldorf's - 1113 Estero Blvd (463-5251) - There seems to be quite a few locals playing trivia here. They have recently expanded and now have a full bar. The beer selection is extensive and the menu is growing. Monday night is lobster night and Tuesday is crab night. (These specials are not on the menu so you have to ask about them.) Outdoor dining on the deck. German menu offers a variance from fried sea food.

Peppone - 1113 Estero Blvd - This is now out of business. Düsseldorf's took over their space.

Cabasca's - 1113 Estero Blvd (463-7866) - A limited food menu but an extensive Margarita selection. Tell us what you think.

Tetley's Steak & Stone - 1113 Estero Blvd - This seems to be a slightly upscale steak house. Tell us what you think about it.

Trade Winds - 1113 Estero Blvd - Serves "Asian fusion cuisine" and a full sushi menu until 1:30am. We haven't tried it yet and would appreciate your feedback.

Jimmy B's Beach Bar - 1130 Estero Blvd (463-9759) - A Ft Myers Beach classic. A very limited bar menu but lots of drink. Watch the sunset from their upper deck or wriggle your toes in the sand from the lower deck.

Jimmy B's Beach Bar

*The Barking Shark - 1150 Estero Blvd (463-3818) - Extensive menu and a good beer selection. The food has rebounded after some family in-fighting in years past and the entire restaurant has really picked up. We went there in January, 2004 and the gumbo was great.

The Waffle House - 1160 Estero Blvd (463-9311) - If someone has tried it, let us know.

Orpheus Cafe Diner - 1165 Estero Blvd (463-1594) - Looks dirty from the outside and even dirtier from the inside.

Beach Doggie Dog - 1207 Estero Blvd (463-0216) - A walk up hot dog stand featuring little else. Hot dogs are pretty good, if you are in the mood. Owned by Gayle and Flo, two very nice women.

The Beached Whale - 1249 Estero Blvd (463-5505) - The dining area and bar upstairs is outdoors and fun, but downstairs is indoors with a sticky bar feel to it. Good selection of foods and nightly specials.

Gulf Shore - 1270 Estero Blvd (765-5440) - The indoor portion of the Cottage/Gulf Shore combination. We only go here if it's raining and it hasn't rained in years so tell us what you think.

The Cottage - 1270 Estero Blvd (765-5440) - The outdoor portion of the Cottage/Gulf Shore combination. The view can't be beat from the deck overlooking the beach. Great beach bread and fried clams. No tap beer but a good bottled beer selection. Menu is a little limited for dinner but the same menu is great for lunch. It's gotten a bit pricey over the years.

The Cottage & The Gulf Shore

Squiggy's - 1661 Estero Blvd (463-6262) - 1950's diner atmosphere with low quality burgers and shakes. Also has take out sandwiches.

Reese's - 1661 Estero Blvd (463-3933) - The last time we were here the service was slow, the food mediocre, and the bill expensive. We haven't been here in years so tell us what you think.

Rustic Cafe - At Miramar - Coffee shop with breakfast and lunch. Fast internet access available for $3/15 minutes (as of 2/03).

Papa Mondo's - 1821 Estero Blvd - Decent Italian food at a decent price.

Cabana's Beach Bar & Grill and Chloë's - 2000 Estero Blvd (765-0593) - We haven't tried them. Let us know.

*Heavenly Biscuit - 110 Mango Street (765-6279) - The name says it all. Heather serves up the most incredible, mouth watering, light, fluffy, delicious biscuits ever made. Go for breakfast or lunch but just make sure you don't miss this amazing little restaurant.

Holmes House - 2500 Estero Blvd (463-5519) - A new restaurant in the old Mucky Duck location. Tell us what you think.

The Beached Whale Reef Restaurant & Lounge - 2601 Estero Blvd (463-4181) - We've never been here. Some one write a review and e-mail it to us.

Island Pancake House - 2801 Estero Blvd (463-0033) - Pam and Megan love the pancakes but it's hard to be indoors when you want to be on the beach.

Anthony's on the Gulf - 3040 Estero Blvd (463-2600) - A bit more upscale for when you're feeling in the mood. The views are great.

Sucrée Salée - This is no longer in business.

The Bridge - 708 Fisherman's Wharf (765-0050) - Fried seafood galore. Many like the music and keep coming back.

Channel Mark - 19001 San Carlos Blvd (463-0117) - A bit more upscale from the usual beach food. Nice pasta and seafood entrees and specialty drinks that will knock your suntan off.

Fishmonger - 19030 San Carlos Blvd (765-5544) - This consistently gets good reviews in the comment book at the house. Let us know what you think and we'll include it here.

Maria's Restaurant and Maria's Backwater Bar & Grill - 18500 San Carlos Blvd (437-4777) - These two fun places are next door to each other just over the bridge. Maria is a fantastic cook and the menu is a step above your usual beach fare.
